Founded in 1951, Hunan Agricultural University (HAU) is a key university in the province. She boasts her R&D capacity in the area of agricultural science and technology. With more than 50 years history, HAU has been developed harmoniously into one of the leading R&D institutions in the academic fields at agriculture, engineering, arts, science, medicine, economics, management, laws and pedagogy, etc. HAU was awarded Outstanding University by the Ministry of Education in undergraduate course evaluation. She also is one of the Civilized Unit in the country. More than 100,000 students graduated since she established.

More than 1,150 academic staff including 2 academician of China Engineering Academy, 192 doctoral tutors, 505 masters’ tutors, 194 professors and 471 associate professors makes it excellent. Professor Yuan Longping, the Father of Hybrid Rice in the World and an academician of China Engineering Academy, is one of the doctor tutors.

HAU has 20 schools and research institutes providing bachelor, master and doctor programs with a total enrolment of 40,000 at present. HAU was granted to enroll overseas students in 1998.

Located to the north of Donghu Lake and the famous Liuyang river passes by the campus, HAU has elegant environment and fresh air with the total area of 2.27 sq. km. HAU has a collection of 2.04 million library units, and 143 million yuan worth of equipment.

HAU has 20 schools providing 2 junior college degrees, 65 bachelor degrees, 67 master’s degrees and 42 doctoral degrees.

From 2012, we have English course for some bachelor programs, students do not need to know Chinese well, just English is ok.

Admission Requirement

1. Undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs

High school graduates for undergraduate programs; Graduates for master’s programs; masters for doctoral programs.

HSK 3 is needed for starting science, engineering or agriculture programs, HSK 6 for arts programs. We offer mandarin remediation. Some programs offer English-teaching courses.

2. Non-degree programs

Research scholar should have master’s degree; general advanced students should have undergone a two-year college study; senior advanced students should have bachelor degree. Anyone interested in Chinese culture and history can apply for short-term programs.

Admission Procedure

1. Submit documents

① The completed “Application Form of International Students Wishing to Study in Hunan Agricultural University”

② Copies of notarized schooling certificate and academic records

③ Health certificates from a public hospital

④ No less than 2 recommendation letters which are written by foreign associate professors if apply for master’s programs, doctoral programs, research programs, or senior advanced programs.

⑤ A guarantee of tuition and outlays from a person with the power in law to bear responsibilities for the person holding the guarantee.

⑥ A copy of your passport

2. Apply for visa

When satisfied with the qualification，HUNAU will issue and mail a “Notice of Admission”, “JW202” and “a registration notice”, etc. to the admitted candidate with his/her health certificate, so as to allow the candidate to apply for an entrance visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their resident countries. Arrival date is clear on the “Notice of Admission”.

6、 Residence permit fee is 800RMB (Students pay it to the Police station by themselves)

7、 Chinese Textbook fee is 394RMB

Attention:

The registration fee (RMB500) should be deposited in the account of our school in advance, after that, our school will mail all the related materials to the admitted candidate in time by EMS;

The fee can be paid once a year or one-off , if in special situation, students should apply and after the application agreed to by our school, other payment procedures could be adopted;

Incidental fee such as books should be paid by yourself.

Scholarship

Half scholarship：The school Provides half tuition to 10 international students of the academic education .International students pay their own registration fee, the travel fee of the round trip, cost of living, insurance, etc.

Accommodation and Living Facilities

Changsha is characterized by a temperate climate with copious rainfall and four distinct seasons. The annual average temperature is about 17℃, the lowest one in January generally is about 2℃; the highest one in August generally is about 35℃. The frost-free period extends to 8-10 months.

With a long history and beautiful environment, HAU is a perfect place for studying, living and communicating. HAU has full sports facilities, including basketball court, volleyball court, pingpong court, etc. The public kitchen is set in the international students’ dormitory, and gym is provided by the school freely. International students can cook for themselves at public kitchen, or eat at refectory with a cost around 15-30 yuan.

The traffic in Changsha is so convenient that can send you to any place in the city. There are many large or medium department stores, super markets, western restaurants, Thai restaurants, and Vietnamese restaurants in downtown.

HUNAU provides the exclusive accommodation to international students,The facilities in the dormitory including telephone, internet connection, desk, wardrobe, air-condition etc. International students pay their own water and electricity fee by themselves.
